Opening

The regular meeting of the AMERICAN LEGION POST 1919 was called to order at 1900 on 08June2021 at the 1919 Post by Commander Dave Everett.

Motion to accept minutes: Jay Collars, Second by Ralph Schuster.

The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as distributed.

Good of Legion

Gina Owens reminded members of the Indiana Convention July 8-11, 2021. All can attend.

Gary Totty asked to Pass the Hat for Christmas Party.  Adjutant counted $97 and delivered to Finance.

Jay Collars reminded members that there is opportunity to join the 40-8.  They provide 4 scholarships each year from 2 endowments.

Commander Dave Everett shared that the ‘Wall that Heals’ was in Franklin, Indiana.

  • It was suggested that our Post write Thank you letter to the group that brought it to Franklin. Maybe a donation can be made to help offset the cost to the group.

VFW Riders Group – Anyone can join the rider group.  The American Legion has not developed a Rider Group but you don’t have to be a VFW member to join their group.  There are info packets on the bookshelf in the bar area.

Commander Dave Everett can provide follow up or contact info for joining any activities happening at VFW or Legion.

The Installment of New Officers Ceremony was performed by Gina Owens.  The following members were installed:

Opening

The regular meeting of the AMERICAN LEGION POST 1919 was called to order at 1900 on 11May2021 at the 1919 Post by Commander Dave Everett.

Good of Legion

The 7th District Meeting was held at Post 1919 on 21Apr2021.  Approximately 10 members attended.  There were a lot of food leftover (approximately $200 worth).  Pictures were taken.  Post 1919 received 3 awards: Honor Award (Reaching membership goal early), 95% membership and 100% membership award.  These were presented by Department Commander Connelly and Rodney Strong.

The new officer elections will take place on Saturday 15May2021 from noon to 1700.  At 1700 the election committee will take the ballets to commander.  They will be retained for 30 days and then destroyed.  Any unmarked ballets are void.

Gary Totty reminded group that to vote you must have your membership card and it will be compared to the Greenbar and that Nominee’s must be in Good Standing and have paid their 2021 membership.

The Election Committee is:  Mike Delany (Chair), Steve Milborn, Joe Vidales

Nominations by office:

  • Commander – The Nomination Committee member Doree Boger brought the email nomination of Sarah Campbell, committee recognized nomination. No more new nominations.  Motion to close nominations made by Mike Delaney, seconded by Don Lafontaine.  Commander nominations closed.
  • 1st Vice – No new nominations. Motion to close nominations made by Dexter Albright, seconded by Doree Boger.  1st Vice nominations closed.
  • 2nd Vice – No new nominations. Motion to close nominations made by Gary Totty, seconded by Kip Blake. 2nd Vice nominations closed.
  • Adjutant – No new nominations. Motion to close nominations made by Gary Totty, second by Doree Boger.  Adjutant nominations closed.
  • Finance Officer – No new nominations. Motion to close nominations made by GK Puckett, second by Butch.  Finance Officer nominations closed.
  • Sgt at Arms – No new nominations. Motion to close nominations made by Doree Boger, second by Joe Vidales.  Sgt at Arms nominations closed.
  • E-Board – No new nominations. Motion to close nominations made by Karen Emmett, second by Dexter Albright.  E-Board nominations closed.

 

 

 

 

The question was brought up by Don Lafontaine whether the 4 positions that were unopposed should not be on the ballet. 

 

Commander Dave Everett stated the Election Committee will review the By-laws and a determination will be made prior to elections. 

 

Pass the Hat - Gary Totty asked to Pass the Hat – Collected $57 and was delivered to Finance Officer Mike Toms.

Closing ceremonies performed.

Meeting was adjourned at 1929 by Commander Dave Everett. The next general meeting will be at 1900 on June 8, 2021 at Post 1919.

Regular Meeting 7/9/19

 

Meeting opened at 7:04 in proper form, with 21 members present, and all officers present or accounted for.

 

GUESTS- Sam Petty, Hoosier Boy’s State participant, and 7th Dist. Adj. Gina Owens

Minutes of the last meeting were approved by motion from Jay Collars, 2nd. by Jim Cox.

 Meeting was then suspended by motion from Mike Delaney, 2nd. by Jay Collars, approved.  This to allow a report by Jay Collars on the Post’s participation of the Hoosier Boy’s State program.  Jay read his report, (see attached), followed by remarks from Sam Petty.  A question and answer period followed.  Photos followed.

The meeting was called back to order, by motion from Gary Toddy, 2nd by Mike Delaney, approved.

Reports followed;

Finance- No report.

Raffle Committee- Mike Delaney gave a report on the status of our monthly gun raffles, held in conjunction with the V.F.W.  Current raffle is just about sold out, and the next item will probably be a shotgun.  Raffle profits are alternation between the Legion and the V.F.W.

Sick report-Joe Vidales is finally back home, and was present at the meeting.

Question raised on the condition of Art Parkhurst, and Honor Guard member Howard Bennis.

New Business-Ladies Aux. is up and running, with their charter expected soon.

Good of the Legion-Gina updated all on the Dept., and National conventions which are coming up.  She also asked for volunteers to help on the National convention.

Commander’s Report-He reported on the last Dist. 7 meeting, and stated that he was appointed as a delegate to the National Convention.  He also stated that Post 1919 will offer to host a District meeting in the Spring of 2020 after we are in our new home.

He also asked for ideas for raising funds to help the newly formed Ladies Aux. with start-up costs.

 

 

Meeting was closed in proper form at 7:45 PM
