Opening

The regular meeting of the American Legion POST 1919 at 1900 hrs. 12 Mar 2024, by Commander Michael Harris.

Approval of Minutes

Previous meeting minutes were distributed to attendees.

Motion to approve by Doree Boger, Second by Garry Totty.

The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as distributed.

Motion to accept report by Jeff Emerson, Second by Garry Totty.

The financial report for February unanimously approved as distributed.

Membership Committee

Dave Everett

93.6% of Goal

12 new members need to reach 100%.

The dues increase was approved to $45 at the Winter Conference. We need to increase our dues to $55. The 10-year option is still available. However, it will go from $350 to $400 for 2025. This is still your best option. Motion made by Dave Everett to raise dues to $55. Second by Michael Roderick. Motion carried by majority voice vote.

Unfinished Business

Committee to Update By-laws

• The SAL portion has been added.
• Need to ‘tighten’ up the language.
• Needs to be finalized to send to National by end of April 2024

 

Son of American Legion

• Chapter charter has been approved.
  • Presented to Commander Michael Harris by District 7 Adjutant Mark Tansel.
  • To be presented at Spring Conference 2024.
• Meetings will be on the Fourth Thursday 1900 hours.
• Come out and support them.

 

Boys State Committee

• Programs have started.
• Open to 11th grade boys.
  • Sponsoring one boy, Cameron P, from Central Grove High School
• Auxiliary has programs for Girls.
  • Auxiliary has Three girls to sponsor.
  • Has the funds to sponsor two but not the third.
    • Membership approved $350 to help sponsor one of them.

 

New Business

 

 

Good of the Legion

• District Meeting
  • 16 Mar 2024 Lyons, IN.
  • 1100 Lunch, $10.00.
  • 1400 Meeting, $1.00.
• Spring Conference
  • April 5, 6 and 7, 2024.
  • District to have a room.
• Fund Raising
  • Collect for Christmas fund.
  • Early to late Spring yard sale.
    • VFW holding one, possibly hold together.
    • AL to charge $20 a spot.
    • Participant to keep everything they bring in.
  • Raffle(s)
  • Any ideas, please let one of the officers know.
• American Legion Family event.
  • To celebrate the American Legion Family: AL, ALA, SAL, AL Riders.
  • Last Saturday on April 27, 2024, 2:00 to 6:00 pm.
  • Will be a pitch-in.
  • Need money to send fliers.
  • AL to provide two ‘Drink tickets’ for AL, SAL, Riders.
  • Motion to spend up to $500.
  • Motion carried.
• Carry the Load
  • Built around May.
    • Indianapolis will be 18 May 2024.
      • Two mile walk to raise support / raise money and awareness.
    • For more information, ask Dave Everett.
  • Elections
    • Nominating Committee
      • Consists of immediate Passed Commander or current Adjutant to chair.
      • Commander appoints other two positions.
        • Doree Boger and Joe Vidales
      • Announce nominations next month, April and May 2024.
      • Elections to be May 2024.
    • Arthur Parkhurst
      • To be presented with 70-year membership.
