Opening
The regular meeting of theAMERICAN LEGION POST 1919 at 1903 hrs. 14 July 2026 by Commander Tim Morris with appropriate opening ceremonies.

Approval of Minutes
Previous meeting minutes distributed to attendees.
Motion to approve minutes with revision on Gina’s last name, by Dave Everett . Second, Terry Smiley.

- Looks like there was money for website and canopy that Dirk Titus purchased
Motion to accept report by Gary Totty. Second by Dirk Titus.
The financial report for unanimously approved as distributed. Motion Carried.
Membership Committee
Terry Smiley
- 04% of 2026 - Retention was 90.86% our goal was198 for the year and we finished at 206 finished strong.
- District 7 was 8th or 9th and bounced up to 1st place again with a strong finish.
- 2026-2027 cards are in so get those payments in. Also remember the 10-year and 3- year memberships. We have 10 -3-year memberships which are national based and 16 – 10-year memberships which are department based.
- Pam Smith – Fortville Post 391 was in 1st place, and we heard about it for two weeks. Terry Smiley advised District 7 was in 1st not the post.
- Discussion on Early Bird membership cutoff around September 1. Terry Smiley stated wanted to do 2 buddy checks not asking for money just asking how the members are and if anything needed. Goal is to do 4 quarterly mainly around holidays.
- Early bird dinner was discussed along with a PUFL drawing for 1 member.
- Terry Smiley as membership chair made a motion (not needing a second) for early bird dinner to spend up to $700.00. Motion to table was made by chair to gather more information on how many members would have to be covered at $20.00 a head. Motion to table passed.
Motion to spend up to $2000.00 to pay a life membership in a drawing during Early Bird Dinner. Money will come from budget. Motion passed unanimously.

- Next meeting date:23 July 2026
- Saturday 25th July 2026, blood drive at the Post as Indiana is in a crisis shortage for blood. One Pint will save 3 lives.
- $20 membership dues.

Entertainment Committee

VFW / Legion Entertainment Committee.
- Nick Lemmonti 7/19/2026 Thursday 7-10 in bar area sings Rat pack songs, Frank Sinatra etc., Whit’s Inn having spaghetti dinner.
- Saturday very busy a lot going on Greenwood Alumni Party. Talked about needing help on 50/50
- No movie next week, the week after is Blazing Saddles
- August 1 at AL 252 Filipino culture event, a lot of food, vendors, etc.,
- August 4 Coast Guard Birthday movie is The Guardian that week.

Unfinished Business
- State Convention was held July 9-10, Delegates were Commander Morris, Terry Smiley, Pam Smith, alternate was Dirk Titus.
- Of the 368 posts there were only 260 with delegates
- August the VA is moving to electronic records system as the Director of the VA came to convention to give us information.
- Reminder from Adjutant if you are going to the National convention which is in Louisville KY to get registration in asap, link in website.
- Had visits at State Convention from the DAV Commander, VFW Commander, National Guard Association, Indiana Funeral Care and 1919 Hugh Dagley for the Legionnaires Insurance Trust.
- 158 Delegates that attended the Hoosier Boys State and 2 that are going to national.
- New District Commander is Dave Everett.
- Dirk Titus mentioned Canopy for recruitment.
- Mike Palmer week of July 22-27 Legacy Ride. I will be posting updates on my part of the ride.
- Dale Berger was asked for update on refund that he was working with Vicky, stated No reimbursement because they lost the receipts.
- Boys state, 158 attended
- Mike Harris reported June 26th at Greenwood Firecracker parade attended from VFW/Legion/40/8/ Aux good turnout with Military vehicles.
- Johnson County parade still confirming some details on what we need to do. Sunday we will be in Herring Hall at recruitment table, signup sheet available.
- Bonding being worked on by Finance officer.
- Motion made by Mike Harris to pay for Legionnaire cover for Johnny Dixon, Korean War Veteran, Seconded by Christine Hurley. Motion passed.
- VFW contracts make sure to have Rodney Davis sign.
- Terry Smiley presented notes from District Meeting.
New Business
- Gary Totty asked about the Christmas Fund, Terry Smiley reported $1089.00 as of June.
- Johnny Dixon was presented with a Legionnaire Cover by Commander Tim Morris.
- Chrisine Hurley suggested informational signage for Veterans when Post is not open. Will get information on how much is needed for next meeting.
- Annual budget being set.
- Charles Teague running the JROTC committee.
- Next District meeting July 26 at Worthington.
- Communication - email provider with free level of Mail Chimp and have been stymied by emails not going out as limit reached need to get to next level abou $20.00 per month to enable to send emails to our members. Motion made by Gary Totty to spend up to $500.00 to upgrade our email service, Seconded by Terry Smiley. Motion passed.
- Motion to go back to normal business made by Dave Everett and Seconded by Terry Smiley. Motion passed.
Good of the Legion
- Dale Berger stated he helped in nominating Tom Peters for Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame. His daughter is recommending. Dave Everett read the Silver Star award.
- Bruce Richman, guest, from WellCare and Medicare Advantage talked about plans for Legionnaires
- Dave Everett talked about being Commander of District 7, mentioned Cystic Fibrosis as State Commander’s project.
- District meetings will be held at 1pm.
- Changes coming to Poker.
- Tim Morris requested a motion be made to go back to new business - Motion made by Dave Everett seconded by Christine Hurley. Motion passed.
- Christine Hurley stated 6 quilts of valor ordered during past month.
- Property Tax Relief discussed.
Closing ceremonies performed.
